At the age of 23, my dad, Mr. Rishi took a job as a carpenter.
But the Hanrazsing family was growing.
He needed to provide more.
So after 15 years of sharpening his kitchen design skills,
… he decided to start his own business.
And that’s how Melamine World was born.
2018.
At first, my dad was solo.
But as soon as I turned 18,
Dad helped me “Larg la main.”
And since then, we’ve served 150+ Mauritian families like you.
We have delivered kitchens ALL around Mauritius.

Last year in November, we opened our first ever showroom.

This year, in November too, we upgraded to a bigger workshop.

What material do you use?
Melamine plywood has 2 layers of melamine.
It compressed with 7 to 9 sheets of plywood in the middle.
Don’t confuse plywood with MDF.
MDF means Micro-Density FIBREboard.
Used in mass-produced kitchens.
The fibre is like a sponge. It absorbs the water.
That’s how it “gonflé”.
Plywood is solid wood.
You put water on wood, nothing happens.
Same here.
Plus it has the waterproof layer of Melamine, so that’s more protection.
Even better if you get 2 layers of PVC instead.
EVEN BETTER if you get FULL PVC.
No plywood.
PVC is used to make waterpipes, so it is very much waterproof.
There are multiple finish options.
I recommend the matte finish.
Feels PREMIUM and timeless.
(you’ll understand when you feel it with your own hands).

As you are driving on the main road from Port-Louis heading to Rose-Hill, look to your right.
There will be a big sign written “Mascareignes Group” and our “Melamine World” sign.

What do you recommend for kitchen colours?
If you want a timeless kitchen, I recommend the MATTE finish.
Over the years, this has always stayed beautiful.
You won’t have the “Why on Earth did I get this colour?” moments.
Matte black is a Melamine World speciality.
And then matte white.
If you have a simple kitchen colour, you can change the decor.
This will change the atmosphere of the kitchen.
Gives you flexibility to personalise, in case your taste changes over time.
What material do you recommend in humid areas?
All the materials we offer are good for humid areas.
If you want to have 1 billion percent peace of mind…
Then I recommend PVC plywood and Full PVC.
It offers extra protection against water damage.
Either way, water will not damage the kitchen, because there’s no MDF.
There’s plywood or a hollow inside.
Does the kitchen require a lot of cleaning or maintenance?
Melamine or PVC kitchen doors do not need much effort to clean.
If you are “amani” like my mother… then all you need is to:
Mix warm water and mild dish soap.
Then, use a soft cloth to wipe clean.
Same for the quartz countertops.
No need to use harsh cleaning detergents.
I like to bake. Do you have tips for my kitchen design?
You bakers have a lot of appliances and little gadgets.
I recommend keeping your countertop space free.
Why?
You know how quickly it can become a headache to look at and clean.
If you tell me you are a baker in the design stage,
… then, I will propose multiple storage solutions:
Built-in ovens, dedicated storage for your baking utensils, etc…
It’s always best to think through HOW you will use the kitchen, before the design.
Takes a little time, but it saves the headaches later.
